One Step Ahead

Introducing FLAWLESS by KEVIN.MURPHY and a more proactive approach to healthy hair.

Great hair isn’t just about how it looks when you leave the salon. It’s about how it feels, how it moves, and how well it fits into your life between appointments.

As a hairstylist, I’m always thinking about the balance between the hair my clients want and the integrity of the hair we need to maintain to get there. Beautiful color, effortless movement, and a polished finish matter. So does the condition of the hair that makes those results possible.

That’s why I’m excited about FLAWLESS, the new 6-in-1 bond-building styling lotion from KEVIN.MURPHY. It brings bond-building technology together with the practical benefits of a styling product and it fits into a bigger conversation I’m having with clients about looking after their hair at every appointment.

For me, that’s what it means to stay one step ahead.

Understanding the bond-building approach

Hair’s strength and shape depends partly on its keratin structure, which includes disulfide bonds. In the KEVIN.MURPHY educator materials I’ve received, KM.RE.BOND is described as repairing broken disulfide bonds and reinforcing the hair’s internal network.

FLAWLESS brings that bond-building approach together with styling benefits. It’s designed to help strengthen and smooth hair, protect it from heat, speed up blow-drying, boost shine, and leave a soft, flexible style.

KEVIN.MURPHY reports that FLAWLESS repairs up to 73% of bonds and delivers up to six times less breakage.

Hair health starts before the finished style

One of the most important things I’ve learned behind the chair is that healthy hair isn’t created in a single appointment. It comes from the choices we make over time.

For clients who love lived-in blonding, dimensional color, or grey blending, maintaining the hairs integrity is a part of that plan. That means considering the hairs current condition, being thoughtful about color placement and lightening, setting realistic expectations, and talking about how to care for the hair at home.

I’m making hair integrity an even more consistent part of the conversation at every appointment. From our consultation and service planning to styling and take home recommendations. The goal is to help each client understand what we’re working toward and how to support those results between visits.

Sometimes that means adjusting a color plan. Sometimes it means recommending a treatment, changing a styling habit, or spacing out chemical services. And sometimes it means finding one product that makes a client’s existing routine easier to maintain.

FLAWLESS is one option I can consider when it suits the client’s hair and routine. My recommendations are always individual; I truly believe no single product is right for everyone.

Six benefits in one styling lotion

FLAWLESS is designed to bring treatment-focused and styling benefits together in one product. KEVIN.MURPHY’s materials describe it as a bond-building styling lotion that:

  • Helps repair bonds and strengthen hair.

  • Helps reduce breakage.

  • Provides heat protection up to 450°F (232°C).

  • Helps smooth frizz and improve the appearance of split ends.

  • Speeds up blow-drying.

  • Boosts shine and supports a soft, flexible style.

The brand also reports that FLAWLESS smooths up to 95% of frizz and seals 100% of split ends under its specified testing. Those are product claims, not a promise that split ends are permanently repaired; when ends need to be removed, a haircut is still the answer.

What I find compelling is the combination: bond-building technology alongside benefits clients can appreciate in their everyday styling routine. It gives us another way to keep hair condition in the conversation while helping clients create a polished finish.

Personalized recommendations, appointment by appointment

The right recommendation depends on the person in my chair. Before suggesting a product or treatment, I consider the hair’s condition, its history, the client’s styling habits, and what they want their hair to do.

One person may benefit from more heat protection and support for color-treated hair. Another may need a simpler styling routine or a different focus altogether. The goal isn’t to recommend the same thing to everyone. It’s to make choices that fit the individual and support the hair we’re working toward.

That’s how I want to approach hair health at Salt+Mane: not as an occasional add-on, but as part of the ongoing salon experience. Every appointment is a chance to check in, adjust the plan, and help clients feel more confident caring for their hair at home.

A few words from clients and stylists

“Flawless has made hair care incredibly easy. I used to be really averse to blow drying my hair, it just felt like too much work and I always felt like my ends were dry and looked ratty after. Since I started using FLAWLESS my blow dry time is faster, my hair feels smoother and shinier, and my ends look healthy and hydrated. It comes with me any time I travel now. ”
— Charisse, client

“FLAWLESS has sped up my blow dry time on thick hair while leaving hair silky smooth with no residue and is unlike any other products I’ve tried on the market.”
— Oakley, stylist at Salt+Mane Salon

“FLAWLESS has not only simplified my styling routine, but has also streamlined my travel necessities. I’m always on the go and having FLAWLESS has narrowed down my routine from 4 products to just one.”
— Kelsey, client

Looking ahead

As a KEVIN.MURPHY Colour.KEY educator, I’m interested in how professional technique, product innovation, and everyday care can work together. The best results aren’t only about what we can achieve today; they’re also about making thoughtful choices that support the hair over time.

FLAWLESS is a new part of that conversation for me. It gives me another product to consider when I’m helping a client build a styling routine that fits their hair and their goals.

Healthy hair shouldn’t be about following a complicated routine or using every new product. It should be about understanding your hair, making informed choices, and adjusting the plan as your needs change.

One step ahead means thinking beyond the appointment, and making choices today that support the hair you want tomorrow.
